Before The Throne of Grace
John’s Revelation 4 Vision
I stood and watched such a sight,
My eyes could scarcely take it in.
I wondered Lord,
Why me this flight?
He said, “my son,
Your heart is right.
Now,
Let the scene begin.”
Upon a throne,
This Vision sat,
As though encased a precious gem.
Around Him glowed in emerald mirror,
Each vibrant color of Promise.
With seat near by,
Were 24 Elders,
Dressed in Bridal Gown,
With emptied veil,
For Golden Crown.
Lights burst forth,
Splitting the scene,
And roaring sounds,
Most deafening.
Seven lamps,
Before Him blazing,
God’s own spirits,
Intoxicating.
A
Not made to shatter.
Four creatures, Living,
Around Him stood,
With vision strong,
From front to back.
One with swaying golden mane,
Another strong and big,
One I swore a man to be,
The last,
A majestic bird of royalty.
Each one with six wings,
Did hover,
With vision strong,
Above and below,
For what seemed to be hours.
Both sun light and moon,
Did seem to pass,
As they praised,
This vision upon the throne.
And when they did,
They were not alone.
For when they would praise Him,
Those 24 would move,
From Throne to floor,
Giving glory and honor, and thanks to Him.
Laying down,
Those once given Crowns,
Now joined in Eternal Grace,
Have finally met,
Full circle,
Coming face to Glorified Face.
I barely could believe,
All that I was seeing.
But like those brothers,
United in Him.
We,
Together,
Live and move and have our being.
“You are worthy, our LORD and God to receive glory and honor and power.”
I,
Too,
Will cry.
For this is a vision,
We all should live by.
Thus, Lord Jesus,
Open Your door,
To Your thriving Throne of Grace,
For I come with confidence.
In Your mercy,
Overtake me,
Dear Jesus,
Envelop my place.
With most gentle and humble hand,
I place,
Each challenge,
I know,
You prayerfully embrace.
All hail King Jesus,
All hail Emanuel,
King of Kings,
LORD of Lords,
Bright Morning Star,
Keeper of the Lamp stands,
Attendant and Friend,
Until Faith becomes Fact,
We,
Love,
With Your Love,
As Your Beloved,
Sailing Mankind’s Sea,
Making Fishers of Men.

This poem was written in response to a homework assignment, in Beth Moore’s Bible Study, Beloved Disciple, to portray John’s Revelation Chapter 4 Vision as we imagined it would look like. As a writer and not an artist I asked for the Lord’s assistance and this is the creation that came about.
